So I found this photo sitting in a frame. Since I’m cleaning house I though I’d write up an article about it.I’m getting rid of the frame but I want to keep the photograph.
This was a trip I took with my sister and her husband at the time in 2001.
If you’ve never been rafting before most of the guide companies hire a photographer to head down before the group of rafts float down the river.
The photographer will stop and shoot pictures of everyone floating by. Of course once you are back at their basecamp they want to sell you the photos they took of you.
I still have the receipt. I apparently also made notes on the back to remind myself of this trip.
This was from Labor Day September 1,2,3 in 2001. WOW! That was a while ago. Our guide’s name was Chris, and I think this was the second trip my sister and husband hired this particular guide.
Reflecting on this trip, I visited their website and noticed he is still listed as one of the staff. Pretty cool. Maybe my sister want’s to take this trip again soon. Fall is s a great time for Rafting the New & Gualey rivers when they release the water from the Summerville damn.
I want to go back for the biscuits at Biscuit World. I wonder if this place is still around.
White Water Outfitter
Anyway, we we used New & Gauley River Adventures. I recommended them 17 years ago and I can only imagine they are still a leader in the area today. I recently looked at their website and they are still offering rafting trips down the New River and the Gauley River. I also appears they are offering other adventures as well. Great to see them successful.
I can’t wait for the kid to get bigger so I can share these types of adventures with him.
Where was your last white water rafting trip? Please comment and share below.
