So I’m still working on the gear selection. One item I wanted to go over was the hydration options. Back in 2007 and 2010 when I was hiking the AT and PCT, I carried a Camelbak hydration 2L bladder (shown below right)
The Camelbak has served me well and I’ve been happy with its performance. However, for my CDT hike I wanted to change things up a bit. I choose to go with a Platypus Big Zip Hydration bladder. The design is slightly different so I’m anxious to test this one out.
In addition to the hydration bladder I’ll also be carrying a 1L Platypus collapsible water bottle. I imagine I will also use a disposable water or pop bottle along the way.
I’m still undecided about water purification methods. Should I carry a water filter? (heavy and bulky) or chlorine dioxide pills? (lighter and less bulky). Anyone CDT hikers out there have any input?
