When hiking the West Coast Trail there were only three essential resources we used for our hike. I listed them here because people have asked me what maps I used or guidebooks I took with me. If you have found other material that has been useful please let me know.
(1) Pacific Rim National Park Reserve of Canada: West Coast Trail Map – Bamfield to Port Renfrew, Vancouver Island
Fuzzy Monkey’s Notes: This is an excellent map and in my opinion a “must have” Is a very nice waterproof map and can be purchased at the ranger station at either end of the trail. I purchased the map to have with me and it also makes a nice souvenir. My map also had the tide table I received during the briefing.
(2) Tide Table: You can obtain a tide table from the ranger office at either end of the trail.
(3) Hiking the West Coast Trail: A Pocket Guide by Tim Leadam
Fuzzy Monkey’s Notes: This is an excellent guidebook and nice and portable. My friend Joe purchased this and it’s how we planned our hiking.
Good luck and happy hiking
